the rb26dett's in the newer skyline gt-r's are rated at 280 bhp, but as others have pointed out, they are really somewhat more powerful than that. The real difference in cost comes from the better engineering of the engine and the fantastic all-wheel drive system. the ATESSA AT-6 in the R34 can split the torque in almost any ratio between the front and rear wheels. the v-spec versions have the added ability to split the torque along the Vertical axis of the car, meaning the onboard computer can send the torque in almost any amount to the exact area it's needed. the drive system is also built to take all the extra power - 300 hp to any one wheel is a lot. if the R34 was imported, it'd cost around $55,000-65,000 and probably be rated at 350 hp.
